Slates skills: free and paid
Skills are instructions your AI reads so it knows how to drive Slates well. Most of them are free and already built in. The Agentic Skills Pack adds the ad playbooks behind our own ads.

The paid ad playbooks
These ship only in the Agentic Skills Pack download and your personal feed link. They aren't on npm, and the one-command installer doesn't include them.

Setting up the pack
Before you start: skills work through the Slates agent connection. If your AI tool isn't connected to Slates yet, do Connect ChatGPT, Codex & AI agents first. It takes about two minutes.
1. Download and unzip
Your download link is in your welcome email and on your account page. It stays live, so grab it again anytime, from any device. Unzip the pack anywhere you like. Inside you'll find:

2. Install the skills
The free skills, in one command. From any terminal:
npx -y @slatesvideo/cli install-skills --global
That installs the free skills for Claude Code account-wide (drop --global to install into just the current project). It does not install the paid ad playbooks, so copy those folders as described next.
The ad playbooks, by copying their folders. Copy each playbook's folder from skills/ into:

SKILL.mdand paste its contents into your conversation, or your tool's rules or custom-instructions area, when you want that workflow.
Restart your AI tool after installing, because skills load at startup.
Or use your feed link. Your account page has a personal feed link. Give it to your AI and it reads the current set of playbooks every time, including new ones we add. Treat the link like a password.
3. Use them
Open your AI tool and just ask. The skills trigger automatically when the request matches, so you don't invoke them by name:
"Make me a 30-second UGC-style ad for my coffee brand in Slates."
"Write a cinematic 20-second spot for my product and generate the shots in Slates."
The agent opens a Slates project, generates the assets, and assembles everything while you watch the app fill in live.
Troubleshooting
- ›The agent doesn't see Slates at all: your MCP connection isn't set up. Do Connect ChatGPT, Codex & AI agents, then restart the AI tool.
- ›Skills don't trigger: make sure the skill folders (not the zip) are in the skills directory, and restart your AI tool. Skills load at startup.
- ›Generations fail with a credit error: check your balance in the Slates top bar. Every generation shows its credit price before it runs.
- ›Anything else: jump in the Discord or email hello@slates.video and we'll get you running.
